it's usually hosted by several free bots and their programmers, i use to play on DotaCash, which is another forum like dotabuff except catered to the dota1 audience

theres BNG ENT as well, might be more idk anymore

anyways, its usually a complete pubstomp, as you join the game that is hosted and just wait until all slots are filled. some people come and go, stats are listed as they join, lots of dodging happens, lots of elo sniping happens, elo is MMR with a baseline starting point of 1000

anywhere above 1.5k was considered intermediate and above 1.8k = pro

its random like the dota 2 mm

^^ people come and go .
so in dota1. there is no automatic match making. am i understanding right ?

          whoji

I am wondering will people be happier if valve remove the whole thing of match making and let "people come and go".
They probably can implement a no-mm option. or something like open-to-public-lobby .

And then it would be easier to infiltrate throwers in the opposite team.

thats how it was like on dota 1, it'd be hard to find a game without a legitimate feeder that was planted on the other team, oh and maphack was skyrocketing through the roof

                Grimorum

The best imo one was dotalicious, but I often waited 30 min - 50 min for a game lol.

yea I played on Dota Cash because of how fast it was to get into game

                    XoD^

._. I played on garena. In the Indian rooms, where people (or I)would host and usually had like high pings.
People would join, usually the host would kick obscenely high pings, and some keep the few very high pings who claim to be using wifi (Even though everyone and their grandma's knew they weren't..) and proceed to lag all game, and eventually dc leaving the game at 4v5.
Anyone who showed even the remotest of skill were accused of maphacking (and they were..)
I didn't even know warding existed till dota2 (Seriously.. only time ive ever seen them was in one game, where I bought them myself, just to see what it does.).. And lol wut? There's an item called smoke??

Supports usually had far more cs then carries. And best of all, if you actually help your carry get farm and kills, when the enemy team gets a ragequitter, your carry proceeds to switch to the enemy team, and then rape your sad underleveled behind.
Also, the toxicity was way worse than dota2.. Pretty sure Ive not even gone 5mins in any game (Except a couple of games where we had 10 knowns :D) where people didn't swear.
Oh, also, you if you buy a courier, only you can control it, unless you give share all units. So on the rare occaisions a courier was bought, it still wasn't usable cuz no one bothers sharing..
Didn't know there were other clients which hosted dota1 ._____.

GOD OP is so toxic.. what a nubp!

                        Kidades

Games on bnet/gg client (garena) sucked (much worse than d2 MM).
Games on dotalicious were much better. Better than d2.
An average game on dota-league was almost as good as the best game on d2. A VIP game on DL was better than most pg1 games in D2.

Before from a regular user POV:
You choosed more or less in which skill level you wanted to play,f.e. community leagues/bot leagues/etc. Each community/league had their rules and freedoms to establish how they want their games/community. Owners/leader with admins had total freedom to welcome or ban players.
Usually a new user started by joining with friends or alone in any of those public allstars games.
From there depending on your ability to learn this game you searched higher challenges in leagues that needed some sort of minimum or vouch from others or you just kept playing public games. Those public hosters were high in number so u could basically start new all over (statistically speaken) with every start at one of those many leagues.

                              ^ and also ^^ and ^^^^ but not ^^^

dota1 seems quite nice community. i see utopia in it.
