Trying Harder, Losing More in General Discussion

So after my last thread about my loss streak I took on board everything people were saying, and I've been playing more to try and improve my core skills (positioning etc) although I started out winning matches again, now I'm playing earthshaker (a hero who I previously had a decent winrate with) my winrate is still going down.

I don't understand why I keep losing. I don't want to be the guy who blames his team, but in a lot of these games I'm getting 1st/2nd highest hero damage on our team (while still trying to be a good support and warding, not taking any farm etc).

These past few weeks of matchmaking have really gotten me down, it's like no matter how hard I try I can win unless I pick carries, or heroes which have a huge game impact regardless of how well they've played. I don't want to be the selfish guy in the pubs who just picks a carry he likes and disregards the team, because I know what it's like to be constantly forced into the 5 role last pick.

Would anyone be willing to be a somewhat long-term coach for me? I'm really trying to improve my ability to play but im not getting results, I really don't know what else to do to start winning again.

just pick smth that takes down structures like lycan/drow instead... if you're good (better) then you should win

      Wink

Don't just pick heroes because you have a lot of wins with them, pick what your team needs (but don't pick heroes you aren't comfortable with)

        Dire Wolf

Or pick high impact heroes. ES can be a high impact hero on the right team but he's not going to carry like if you pick lycan (kill towers) or void (kill heroes).

You won't believe it but graphs tend to go up and down. In large enough sample you will get a lot of hot and cold streaks. Poker players say that at some point you will experience a downswing like you had never before, no matter how good you play. At that point comes the damage control, because everyone is prone to tilting when they hit a cold spell.

If you lost 3 in a row, go play a unranked or a fucking bot match, doesn't matter. Gather your emotions and try again. The worst losing streaks come from trying breaking them at all cost.

Btw I don't like looking at that All Hero graph. I think looking at graph for single heroes is more valid in terms of how your gameplay is improving.

the worst thing you can do to your team is to wait to last pick your hero. When you start flipping through heroes or hovering over a hero you dont intend on playing you give your team a false impression of what you are doing and even if they want to pick a team with good synergy you end up making it impossible. If you want to increase your win rate DO NOT pick what you 'think' the team needs pick what you are comfortable with. I have a better chance of winning if the person who sucks playing support does not pick support because we lack a support on the team

                Numberwang

See that's my point, I tend to hover over supports anyway with the intent of picking them. Earthshaker is a hero that I'm very comfortable playing, and can give the team what they need in terms of CC, supporting etc. Before my current losing streak I had won 5/8 matches as Earthshaker, and it was in fact playing that hero that had gotten me out of some losing streaks in the past. As a result he's almost my go-to support, unless there's an obviously better choice, because he's capable of a large damage output and not really squishy even if he's somewhat behind.

Another point I'd like to ask is, in terms of carrying a mek, if I say third/fourth pick Earthshaker, who is not a natural Mek carrier, and we already have 1/2 carries and a mid, if the last/second from last guy also picks a non natural mek carrier, is it worth my time to repick to one for the sake of winning a game? I know mek isn't necessary all the time and that it alone won't win a game, but it sure has a large early/mid game importance

                      Cheers havoc, it's greatly appreciated

Like i already said in one of your previous topics. In almost all games that you lose, you are clearly the worst player and has lowest impact. And oposite - if you do good, you usually win.

You want to win more? Work HARD on your positioning and first improve your defensive play, cause you're diing way too much and end up feeding the oposite players, which makes games almost unwinable.

Don't listen to Havoc! he'll start by playing the guitar to you with no clothes on it and before you know it, you'll be naked and covering yourself in marmite whilst watching my little pony with a vibrating egg stuck up your ass.

That's how he chooses to warm up for doto.

Thats how he coached you Guiri back in the days? :O

I have played 1 match with Havoc and can confirm that this is true
