I'll look into that in a bit too. I tried downloading other codecs and found MSU lossless video codec. Used it to record with the built in recorder on the VBA. turned up a fair 67 mb for 2:50 worth of run time. Uploading atm to check if it looks decent on youtube

also apparently hiding the toolbar at the top of the window causes the black screen recording. so I guess this is just about how far my videos will go atm. happy about the results. thanks lots especially to Dos Catos for introducing me to OBS. that was quite a breakthrough find for someone who has next to no knowledge of screen capture like me.

cool thing with OBS is you can have a timer at the side and what not because you can record individual windows and arrange them however you want
