I've been playing ranked quite a lot lately. im a 2.6k player. And i always find a pattern that when i play carry we lose because lack of support picks. But when I pick support. We win most of the time. So im now making the jump of playing support full time in ranked. Any tips pros here can give me? Really need it. Thank you!

Support, particularly in the early to mid game phase revolves around securing different objectives, most of which directly or indirectly create the space for your carry to accomplish his or her objectives: hit that first core item timing, get to a certain level, etc.

I cant explain everything but here's my 2 cents:

During the early game, unless there is reason to babysit your lane partner (like if your lane partner is a fragile carry like sniper) or you desperately need exp, you usually dont want to be sitting on lane leeching exp from them, or attacking and hence pushing out the creep wave closer to the enemy tier 1 tower, thereby making it less safe for your carry to be standing there trying to last hit.

Double pull is an option if you are taking radiant safe lane.

Stack jungle / ancients if your team carry can efficiently clear them; heroes like legion, gyro, etc. AND make sure your carry clears them as soon as he's able to.

Dont be too predictable in warding, i.e place obs wards in spots which still give useful map vision, but lie outside the radius where enemy usually dewards.

If you play techies, you will understand why warding and dewarding is also about playing mind games.

I also find ward-blocking the enemy safe lane neutral camp early-game very useful to prevent their pulling.

And of course, choose carefully when to roam: unsuccessful ganks / counter-initiation waste time that could have been spent securing other objectives.

Just remember, to some extent you are playing against the clock and against the other team's speed at accomplishing their objectives, because your ability to accomplish certain key objectives as a support hero either diminishes or snowballs with time.

The question is by how much, and that would depend on situational factors like hero picks (silencer for example, is generally terrible playing from behind), team fights, roshan attempts, etc.

If you have time, read this: http://www.pcgamer.com/rhythm-is-a-ganker-timing-is-the-most-important-thing-that-moba-newcomers-miss/

It really expanded my game sense and situational awareness and it might help you too.

Not that my decision-making doesnt have a long way to go, but still.
