I think Vanguard is decent if your team is patient enough and also skilled enough to let you farm away, trusting in you for the late game.
The problem with AM that I have found in every game so far is that in NS at least, AM takes so long to come online that by the time you've got enough items to make a contribution in teamfights the enemy is already raxxing you and the team has resorted to flaming.
AM requires your team to play around you and play as 4 in a lot of the early and mid game to delay it long enough for you to come stomp everyone later on. In my experience, this doesn't usually happen and teams tend to feed before he can have any impact.

Is vangaurd really bad?
i mean , i tried vangaurd with phase early and goes like 6 2. in the cost man fight for farming speed
and you know, i kinda really get annoyed and not comfortable with my supports flaming me the entire game despite early frags , and the team cannot hold fed sf and enemy spectre just get all items.
btw , because i make vanguard my rubick stop buying wards and flaming me instead.
