Trust me, I had my brother make a fresh new account at my house, and he was completely new to dota, he got teamed up with people that selected positions and argued about ganks and pulls, when he didn't even know what "ward" or "pull" or "gank" was...

skillbracket in your 1st game depends on what you tick in the window that pops up when you first lunch doto on that acc but otherwise it's how you perform in the first few games
that's not true - if i put i've played dota 2 before, my first game is normal skill but if you put you've played before you get a vhs/hs game straight off.
i don't know what value does to check - maybe ip checking or not - but it definitely uses something - maybe some local files on your machine?
triplesteal is right, it only affects ur starting point. when u play ur first 10 games horribly u will drop from vhs into hs for sure.
Was the op sarcasm? I went 2-8 and calibrated 300 mmr higher. Had I not had Peruvian teammates and went 5-5 I probably would've been placed 800 mmr higher

I am in awe with just how accurate valve's matchmaking is. First of all, I have made several smurfs and they all calibrated at about the same MMR despite that sometimes I went 7-3 and sometimes 4-6. Sure, roles such as roaming riki do get punished for lack of 'impact' but overall the system is very accurate in assessing skill and ability. You are what your MMR is, it's not your teammates.
I am not sure how they compute one's MMR but apparently you have to know your hero. I do not play BH at all and despite stomping with it the second to last game, Valve determines that my play was poor mechanically and I agree (sure, I have the game sense of a decently skilled player and factored in 9 of the first 10 kills but I missed easy tracks and landed few chain tosses.) While dropping me to 'normal' in the very next game is excessive but Valve is very smart in its assessment on whether if you know what you are doing.
In a way I think the system is similar to Alpha Go, in which it is ever evolving and ever learning. Each and every game played is recorded into the database and studied by the logistics of the system. The cumulation of these games makes Valve's matchmaking system what it is today. Simply put, a very well coded algorism.
