It depends on mmr, before 5.5k probably mid then it dosnt matter as much.
This is because if you play mid you rely on yourself rather than having a weak support on the safelane.
TBH getting 5k+ is more about the dota 2 social construct rather than actual skill.
Given that every 8k+ mmr player in the world is either a mid or safelane carry player, the answer is pretty easy.
mid-high 6k, pos 4/5 exclusively now, played most of my gaes on this role
it is not an issue getting to 7k if you are a support player (i know many players that have) but you have to be good at it (its also different from pubs, you transition into a pseudo carry in a lot of games, if you are the highest mmr, on heroes like lesh/sky/others). getting much past that is quite hard however. you shouldn't worry about what your mmr says, honestly just learn whatever role you want to play and if you are below 6k i dont think it is a good idea to even consider only playing a specific role. you learn way more about dota by playing all the roles, and at sub 6k knowign about dota's much more important than specific role mechanics.
kD i just look at most played and reagent games :3 teach me how to support Medusa, am or axe plis
I saw the same pattern, if you are like below 6k, you can only win 1v9 if you pick mid or carry, with the above 6k guys it doesn't really matter any more.
I dont play CORE cuz of impact or shit
I just find playing invokah so funny and delightful :(

I've been always thinking that if you consider yourself the most skillful player in your team, picking carry is the easiest way to secure the game. Therefore it seems that the majority of really high mmr players (6k+ and pro players) who have to play a lot of ranked games where the mmr gap between them and the rest of the team is really wide, those players are to pick carries in order to secure the game in the easiest way. However, I've spotted that most of these players have mid heroes are the most played, not carries.
Therefore, my question is: is it really easier to win the game as a mid rather than as a carry, if you are the most skillful player in your team (with a significantly higher experience/mmr)? I thought that having the highest farm priority/late game impact make carry the best role in terms of "winning games by yourself".
