I don't mean touch typing while playing Dota, that not hard, since most of us use grid hotkey, I mean touch type while writing, or playing something like Starcraft.
I didn't even know this had a name, I haven't looked at my keyboard for the last 10 years at least, rofl.
Some say it's a lost skill, since the new generation usually get used to typing on smart phone before keyboard typing.
so you're telling me you can't even type without looking at the keyboard?
i've learned that skill on my 2nd week of using the computer...
Well, my parents were against me using a computer when I was younger, I had little time to learn, thus developed a terrible typing habit, I use whatever finger I please to punch different keys. I have to look at the keyboard doing so.
Well how would i type in the darkness if i dont have these skill xD. I play at midnight so this is a must for me and i am now trying to do this with my phone too
Also I spent a lot of time punching people and sandbags, had some figer injury in the past. That might cause a little issue, but nothing I can't over come. I'm a black belt, but to be honest, fighting skill is much less useful than to use a computer. Apparently my parents thought otherwise.
Oh, except that time, I moved to a new school, a bully tried to pick on me, and I beat the shit out him, everyone cheered for me, that felt great.
Worth to learn, hard. Your typing productivity should be skyrocketed in time when you do
Because copying from textbook will be easier since you could fix your vision towards the book instead interchanging between book and keyboard
No need to learn it specifically by the 10-finger theorem, just do type often. Your finger will remember which key placed where and should be pushed by which finger in time, I think it is called muscle memory. CMIIW
It's probably worth learning. I wish I had placed more effort into learning how to do it. (It makes workflow so much faster). I've been improving but my typing habits still suck
i used to play dota 1 so hard back then i would scold everyone in the game thats how i develop touch ytpezz
who looks at the keyboard while typing? are you a grandpa learning about computers at 2k17? only my grandparents still look at the keyboard... well and me for 2 weeks when i upgraded to a mechanical XD
Typing is a language. If it is primarily what you 'speak', then naturally, it would be in your best interest to learn it.
I think it's definitely worth practicing. I learned in school when I was younger but I got much faster after playing wow for years so I think with practice anyone can get better. I'm sure there's gotta be free games out there to help you practice. Also like someone else said I don't type the way I was taught (resting fingers on asdf hjkl or whatever) but just by knowing where the keys are and being able to tell where my fingers are and thinking of what I'm going to type + mapping it out in my head... it's second nature to me now, wish dota was the same ... feelsbadman
I really doubt that everyone here can touch type, more like you misunderstand what is touch typing. I can't touch type, but I don't watch the keyboard while I'm typing. Touch typing means you can type flawlessly without looking at the keyboard or screen, mainly used to input data quickly. Try it out, grab a book and type one paragraph without looking at the keyboard, and at the screen. If you mistype, you should fix it without looking at it, you always look at the text in the book. But if you mistype, you can't touch type easy as that. There was touch typing exam in my mid school, but if you made 3+ mistypes on a 3 pages long text, it was ill-advised to try the exam.
you will naturally learn it as you use the computer. The QWERTYUIOP layout won't change and will never.

Is it worth learning? How many of you touch type? Right now, touch typing is slowly me down quite a bit, due to the mistakes I make.
