i got 70% winrate just picking whatever, itd be higher but im not at my peak rn and ive thrown a lot of games away with bad farm/bad positioning especially on tinker
but its definitely not 40% destined to lose, id say maybe 20% are really hard but doable games, 5% extremely difficult and 5% closest to unwinable. you have a lot of wiggle room depending on what hero you pick and how you behave
if the enemy team snowballs they are still 4ks, ive won so many games by waiting for them to engage on the other side of the map and then slapping towers with a desolator
Just random and enjoy MMR, assuming you are very versatile. The extra 200 for randoming, even the extra 100 if rerandomed, can break the game tbh. Like if the support randoms; buys cour, buys bottle, gives to midlaner. The midlaner now how starting items(null, WBand, tangoes, faerie fire, GG branch) in addition to bottle? Good luck trading with him. Any of the cores random? Similar situation, item advantage, enjoy trading. Pretty good
^ the problem with that is you random Potm against PL where you could have picked earthshaker.
100 gold is worth 3 creeps.
well i dont like spaming. the only hero i played consecutively for long is venomancer.
Its bit tough and slow to climb but honestly after spamming hero for couple of days i wouldnt want to even play dota.
so basically i play what i feel like on this account
If you look at "professional" boosters, all they do is spam meta heroes (which in this case would be the heroes u mentioned + pugna/visage) since it's the fastest way to finish the job.
I'm playing a variety of different heroes on this smurf, (some of which I'm not familiar with) and I have to say that I shouldn't have been surprised when I didn't achieve 85-90% win rate in the shit-tier trench that most boosters are capable of.
Valve is fucking retarded for capping the max at 3500, such a waste of time.
(Also I believe offlane/mid are the easiest roles for points, I don't advise safelane since the enemy offlane can be completely rekt and ur team will still be useless)
Back in 2014 u could just spam some broken shit like storm spirit/invoker/ember spirit every game and have like 70% win rate in any bracket up to 7k but I doubt that works past 4.5k-5k now. You could have 70/30 cs as TA mid and still easily lose the game.
someone did some mathsy stuff on reddit and showed that your individual contribution is much higher than the original 40 40 20 thing
if there's one hero i would spam it's doom, he's pretty broken in pubs
u could face a trilane and just eat a big creep at ur nearby camp for exp + gold, you'll be level 6 before their safelaner (unless it's meepo) pretty much every single game and have insane farm while deleting any core that isn't pl/naga/meepo/wk every single fight
sb/viper are really boring and i don't think anyone would enjoy clicking q and r every single game

Long story short, if you're the non-cheese non-spam type, you'll lose a lot of games along the way which is beyond your control. But as long as your skill level is above your current bracket, you'll VERY SLOWLY climb to a higher MMR.
You spam viper, necro, sb for the statistical advantage, and sure enough it works over a decent sample of games.
I guess some people like spamming the same shit. If you're playing a game like Diablo that's what you're basically doing - farming with one hero for 5,000 hours, casting the same spells, repeating the same runs. That's one of the reasons why I quit playing hack and slash type games. I got bored of it.
And I do get bored of spamming cheese heroes every game in dota.
So back to the topic - how hard is it to win games without spamming?
Pretty hard.
Why? Because you have a 50-50 chance of being handed a team that wants to win (type 1), and one that doesn't want to or doesn't know how to (type 2).
Type 1 is the tryhard type that knows how to draft (they'll pick the cheese heroes so you don't have to), how to play roles properly (like pos 4 and 5 will zone out the offlane and make sure he's lvl 2 @ 8 mins) by being knowledgeable about lane control, counter ganks (they'll chain-tp to save a core), map control (smoke tp to place wards at start, counter-ward etc).
Type 2 includes the clueless (no idea wtf to pick, waits 20 seconds to pick and loses 40 gold, then gets pos 4 kunkka and pos 5 pudge), the toxic (MID OR I JUNGLE), and in general those who're just going with the motion and losing the same MMR they gain every 10 games (you know, those who random, or pick heroes that don't go with the draft, or tilt every other game because they have the emotional maturity of a 9 year old girl).
When you get handed the type 2 team, your odds of changing the outcome of the game are very slim. The current meta snowballs really hard. You can win your lane, and do everything right, but the team's shortcomings eventually catch up. This can happen even when you're picking Arc Warden every game.
When you get handed the type 1 team, you could do w/e you want (like get dagon first on chen) and still win.
I'd say about 40% of your games will be ones where you're destined to lose. You know the type, where the game is over around strategy time and you just know you're about to lose 25 MMR.
40% of games are ones you're destined to win.
20% of games are ones where it comes down to you. If you win these close games, you'll climb up.
