unless you're a support player, in that case the calibration always tales the 300mmr you grinded away from yoi because you didnt have 500 gpm and 4.00 KDA and only 12k hero damage
There's a rating for each role - supports could have 0 hero damage but get 10/10 because of warding/dewarding, units healed, etc.
But yea I see your point. There's no transparency with how calibration works. So for those 10 games I can totally see people picking Zeus or playing for themselves, leading to a shitfest.
guys complaining about this shit like it came from lol while valve's other game has a similar ranked system lul
also it's more SC2 than anything else. blaming IF for stealing from blizzard? kinda ironic
@Story time,
Supporting guys at lower mmr like I do is tough. Getting good KDA is like a pipe dream unless you are a player who just cast spell and run and don't save allies just to get back and don't die.
Zeusfestival yeah
Pick jakiro
????
Win
Easy lane dominator, lots of hero damage usually, great at pushing and will thusly get some building dmg done. Pair that with the other support factors and even get a mekansm, then you're set. At least on paper...
@Master Bait
Play Dazzle, Dazzle 7.07 is better than before.
Hero Healing stats could get a boost in calibrating and stuff.
how about the player that still not yet unlocked their ranked match but at VHS bracket in dotabuff. Its they still can re-calibrating at an avg 4k games? Or will calibrated at 3500 MMR like before that valve has lowered the MMR system? Please reply as fast as possible. Thank in advance......
Additional comments. what do you guys think on how much MMR i will calibrating at this new ranked system???? Max 3.5K or above???
If my current mmr now is 2k is there any chance that mean I can get Gold medal?by any means?
This calibration shit will affect only 4.5-5k+ players, all the shit players from 0-3k mmr are hopping they will eventually get higher mmr for free "cuz they are pro".
This whole thread is made of dogshit speculations and assumptions.
15 Nov. is not that far away.
Pls gib 5k equivalent division, Valve/IceFrog or whoever is in charge of new matchmaking. I suk ur dik if u do
stop violently raping support players with calibration, thx gaben.
calibration 10 core matches incoming.
inba im gonna pick supp win all games but still drop 500mmr because i didnt hit creeps all game long
Calibration is pretty inaccurate and shouldn't have much of an effect.
Only wins matter in Dota, not stats. I've seen players like VP.Solo with literally the worst stats and they still manage to do what is required to win the game.
I'd imagine the medals are just a visual representation of your mmr and should make newer players happier.
Its not going to be numbers, the rmm would be similar to LoL
How sure are you about this? My understanding from the patch notes was that the numbers would remain but there would be medals to show your rank on your profile as well, since the patch notes still mention recalibrating MMR every 6 months.
"Your current historical preseason MMR value will be recorded and selectable in your profile, and ranked players will continue to be able to track their current seasonal MMR value."
^ This bit from the patch notes I understand as meaning we can select our calibration MMR every season to display in our profiles, and continue to track it in our profiles.
great valve your so great at breaking an awesome game.. now we cant even play rank as our team it just turns the shit into party insted .. great job.. how about you get your ass away from LOL and make DOTA GREAT AGAIN! FUCK THE MONEY!
there is a fucking reason why we play DOTA and not LOL! cause LOL is for gays so dont fucking turn DOTA into LOL got it volvo!?
Why all speaks about mmr and medals like it is relevant for good experience. In my opinion problem is bad behavior of players which ruins dota experience. I have lately played games where I have two players in my team which I have reported or muted previously why matchmaking cant take it in consideration and let me play without those assholes. Assholes could play together and all have fun :)
This ranked update has the potential to be the greatest thing that happened to dota since techies was realeased
Everyone was happy when a year ago they made recalibration available as battle pass feature. Now people are mad. Recalibration doesnt have any flaws, as you get mmr u deserve.
Hopefully this will reduce the amount of smurfs/account buyers. I know it wont get rid of them completely, but it should reduce the incentive for making new accounts. I predict botting abuse to potentially get worse though as people will try fool the calibration system every season.
Let's say you're a 2K player now. In the new season, you calibrate at 2K. Over the next six months, you gain 200 MMR. Now you're a 2.2k MMR player. At the end of the season, your medal is something like 2 medals 4 stars.
This is right except missed out one point. When u calibrate at 2k, u will spend ten games re-calibrartion and u will get a new MMR. Then u start to gain MMR. After u calibrate from say 2K, if u become really suck, u may end up in 1k even only 10 games calibrartion games played. Then after that each game is +/-25mmr. That should be fair. So if u have like 6Kmmr and don play dota for like 1yr, your mmr will have to be re-calibrated and if u suc, u will prob drop to 2k. Rather than losing every game and dropping 25mmr each game, the re-calibration will prob drop u to 2k in 10 games becos u deproved a lot.
you know this is wrong right? mmr is still there the medals are end of season indicators of the highest mmr you reached
What of you don't want to recalibrate your Mmr ? Like I'm good to my MMR now is there a option just like in last ti that you have an option whether you switch your current mmr to the seasonal MMR?
But would it become more or less toxic when both ranked and unranked affect your medal. Many people have a mindset that "I can do whatever I want because it's just a NORMAL GAME". only salvation might be Turbo mode now lol
The point is to show how good you are through number. So calibration only makes your mmr more objective. This will help players who dont deserve their mmr to fall, and the opposite.

Below is my understanding of the new MMR system, based on the short paragraphs in the 7.07 patch notes.
1. Instead of MMR (1k, 2k,....10k brackets), we'd have seven medals, each with five stars. So I'm guessing a certain number of net wins would be needed to take you from, say 5 medal 4 star to 5 medal 5 stars, and then to 6 medal 1 star.
2. "At the start of each season all players will recalibrate MMR, seeded by their previous season’s MMR. Your current historical preseason MMR value will be recorded and selectable in your profile, and ranked players will continue to be able to track their current seasonal MMR value"
This means that at the beginning of every season, there would be a calibration period similar to the current system. One difference is that right now calibration usually starts with a normal game, and slowly moves to HS and then VHS as you keep overperforming in the calibration games. In the new system, a 4K MMR player would play calibration games with other 4K players, while 1K players would calibrate with other 1K players.
The net result is that unless your skill level has greatly changed, your calibrating games are still in your current bracket, so you have a very high chance of calibrating in that bracket again. The only people who would recalibrate are those who haven't played in a while and are rusty, and would move to a lower bracket. So I can see game quality improving a little bit.
3. The slow grind to high MMR is going to be slightly harder
There are lots of players who have a 50.5% win rate in ranked games, have 5000+ games, and are 6k MMR.
The new system doesn't totally eliminate the ability to keep climbing MMR.
Let's say you're a 2K player now. In the new season, you calibrate at 2K. Over the next six months, you gain 200 MMR. Now you're a 2.2k MMR player. At the end of the season, your medal is something like 2 medals 4 stars.
Next season you recalibrate. You calibrate at 2.2K. Over the next six months, you gain 300 MMR. Now you're a 2.5K MMR player. At the end of the season, your medal is 2 medals 5 stars.

My take on this- I don't think a lot changes here. You can still climb MMR cumulatively over time (and have something to show for your efforts), which is good. People will just need to get used to referring to medals and stars instead of MMR. You'd play an additional 10 games a season to recalibrate. But to be honest unless you've gotten completely garbage, calibration isn't really an issue.
