Is it a bad thing that i cant play support? in General Discussion

I dunno, i just dont know how support works.

I do babysit safelane, harass enemy offlaner, help contesting mid, do rotation, warding, buying utility item.
Yet still low winrate as support.

I know i die a lot, because most of time the carry doesnt want to cover his support in my bracket.

But in the other side, im not that bad as carry.
If i play with my 5 stacks, i can do better as like in this game (because i got a support).

My friend let me carry, but you know, most of the time i played solo ranked, where everyone wants to be carry. (Me too)

Should i continue support, or keeps begging for carry pos in match?

no carry would want to cover the supp if there are risks to themselves, just do what you do best in matches

One skill you should learn about supporting is positioning. Unless you are playing ogre or any tanky support, positioning will help you support your cores while distancing yourself from the enemies.

without improving your understanding of support you will not break a certain limit in your carry skill

whenever i feel like i reached a cap in my current favourite position i try to improve somewhere else. i play a good 3k position 3,4,5 but more like a mediocore 2k mid and carry. recently i worked on my safelane carry, after that i managed to climb another 300 mmr as offlaner in just a week. next thing to work on is mid. i think i need to understand how my mid player should be thinking, when he wants to group up and push so than im ready for it.

if you're a bad support you cant be a good carry

            Jacked

It's understandable u wouldn't be as good on a role u r not used to. But there's nothing wrong with trying to get better at support. Go learn the role it can help u understand what ur supports should be doing when u play carry.

              Dogwater

^true. Its a different list of objectives early on and it can only be a good thing that you know how they move

                Xcell

Yeah if you cant play supp good? better dont pick core role, try to fix your gameplay as supp first.
If you cant play better as supp, then you give up playing supp. Its mean that you already limited your potential as core.

Because you cant read your support movement as core also you cant read enemy support movement. (Thats all because you give up playing support in my opinion)

                  chicken spook,,,,

most likely you cant play both

Find a Hero you enjoy playing as a support. For me, it is SD. Bullying everybody else And scaling a lot into late game. Dont go with meta, find a Hero you like And go with jim.

ye, jim is a good one but he quit dota half a year ago :/

                        Tu tayta

Why not try something else? There are more roles than just carry and support, you know?

I don't know, do what suits you best and if that's a core position, then roll with it. Depending on the game, a shitty support tilts me more than a shitty carry.

                            yes

it also matters what kind of support you pick.

Picking lich for example is bad when the enemy team has a lot of late game and you need to end early. You need SS here.

Picking ss is bad when the enemy team has lots of initiation and disables and can push. You need disruptor here.

Picking easily countered supports early is bad. Like dazzle is almost always gonna get Axed. Silencer will get Ursa'd or Snipered.

Also, you haven't elaborated on warding, but it's super critical that you know all the meta ward spots. Make sure to not feed obs (they cost u gold, and give lots of early game xp and gold to the enemy). Always check the mid lane for obs. It's super helpful for the mid laner to have vision of the enemy hill but not the other way around.

As support, it's also your duty to make plays with smokes, and always carry detection. It's embarrassing as fuck when you have a free kill on an invoker and he just ghost walks away because of no detection.

Your positioning is also key. As support you're not going to have many items to tank up, so play in the back to the extent possible.

Always do something. If your safe lane is zoned and the hc is free farming, instead of hogging the lane, go stack camps.

ss has better depush than disruptor ^_^

depush support would be ww, kotl type

                                giren

About your winrate as a support, I think having a lower winrate is normal, you have less impact than when you play core.

Also most of your impact when you play support is on the laning stage, you have to win it. Then come the hardest part: make sure your team doesn't 322, because if this happen all your effort in the laning stage are wasted.

                                  ii

mark safelane then pick a carry, if they still pick another carry its not your fault

                                      @giren
Totally agree for wat u said. But theres always some 'pros' always look on the winrate and judge ur skill instead of ur teammates whn u ply as a support
