CM is a very underrated harass hero, if you are paired with anything that can kill in lane such as an Ursa or even a Juggernaut then its an easy lane, failing that its pretty easy to zone the enemy offlaner with your spells. If your lane partner has a lot of kill potential its not a bad idea to max W in order to set up kills on the enemy but if the offlaner is hard to kill or your carry has low kill potential then its better to max aura to assist your team in the early game and prioritse your Q over your W, HOWEVER you should 100% get a value point in W either at level 3 or 4. Also never pull waves. If the lane is pushed its advisable to hard push the lane into the enemy tower to restore the lane close to your tower. Pulling normally results in the enemy creeps dying to your tower or a double wave if you mess up the timings.
Skill build lvl 5 depending on enemy or team comp
2-1-2 Balance Damage, CC & Sustain
1-2-2 Great against elusive heroes like Weaver, Windranger or with blinks & lvl 2 aura for sustain
2-2-1 Greedy Great CC and Damage but less Sustain
3-1-1 Pure Burst depends on team comp if you have enough disables and so few spells to spam
1-3-1 This should be rare build against elusive heroes if you don't have enough stun/root in your team this would be great but it lacks aoe damage and sustain
1-1-3 Safe Play it makes it easier for your team to harass enemy or clear wave by spamming spells. best build for stacking camps
What to do in lane?
If against solo offlane just harass drain healing items, use spells q for securing a creep if your carry can't get it and w for messing up the enemy's cs it's hard to trade hit's against CM since she has slow and root unless you use spells.
If against 2 player it's either 2-1-2, 3-1-1 or 1-1-3 skill build if you have a hero advantage ex. ursa against melees then get greedy get a kill or remove 1 enemy from the lane by constant harass if they are stronger it's better to just play safe or ask for ganks.
If against 3 you either 3v3 or play extremely safe you can get greedy if you have better heroes on 3v3 if not then one of you should just leave lane and pressure other lane to remove 1-2 enemy on the lane
If you are 3 person in lane just get first blood no need to stick in 1 lane for 5 minutes

first of all I have to say it's a bad matchup. SS has 70+ attack at lvl 1 and trading hits is just not really viable. CM has high mana cost skills so they really aren't spammable in lane. Depening on what's happening in the lane, slark can just go jungle if he can't farm and you get the lane for levels, or just give the tower and slark can creep control in front of tier 2 tower. If you watch the TI9 games, you can see that players like sumail don't prioritize getting all the creeps in mid, instead they jungle (given their heroes can kill 2 camps at once and fly has stacked neuts too) since it is a faster gold injection in addition to the pressure of a missing mid to the other enemy lanes.
I don't really suggest playing CM in pubs since she's more powerful with more reliable teammates, but if you really want to play her in losing lanes, the casual frostbite the big creep is not that bad as others might think. If your carry is impatient and wants a support by his side all the time, he's most likely not that good a player.
If your core needs the pull, he will and should do it himself, getting himself free gold that way!
It would nice to learn this CM because it is the most efficient afk hero.
CM was also my daily quest so I would love to win with her. Luckily I'm back in Treant now and daily quest has been gone =D
I would still like to learn CM better just to have this ultimate AFK hero in my repertoire.
