Run the game on an SSD if you have one. I had severe problems with freezing, loading the game. etc. was very confusing as well since my PC has reasonable specs (1080ti/16GB of RAM). Tried verifying game files, uninstalling. etc. none of that worked, but then I cleared some space on my SSD and installed Dota onto that drive and it works very well. Fixed all of my performance issues.

the hero won't show but i still can hear drafting sound and shit i cant see any heroes so therefore i cant pick which results in a fucking abandon.
My old potato pc (nvidia g210 gpu) also has this problem, but heres my trick to avoid it. Play bot first before finding matcg so that dota 2 loaded all the necessary resources to start the game.
Happens the same thing with me everytime i open the first game and sometimes the second one, is because of the pc. Try to demo a hero before and if with that it doesnt work then demo a hero and play a warm-up pub, your pc will adjust. If it doesn't adjust then i would say upgrade your pc. Also you can try to put the lowest graphics possible and there is a command on the properties that you can put so it wont charge the intro and other things i believe but i do not know it.
